“It’s not your dream” is a work in progress. It’s one of the outcomes of the research “RBL” that emerged during the confinements from my solitary experimentation between movement, sound and voice, bringing out textual contents.These contents vary between rap, the flow of free associations, vocal interjections and slogans. It tends to, in opposition to pandemic disconection reglamentation, connect me and my practices with the others and, moreover, to connect everybody together by proposing unexpected interpretations of the rebel figure. By doing so, the performance will invite you to generate and share the positive and creative energy that lies in the acts of not agreeing, questioning the rules in a community, experimenting with these rules and transcending them, initiating our own underground movements and keeping faith in a possibility of a better life.
Other outcomes of this research is an online and live performance “Tai ne tavo sapnas” in lithuanian ( EN subtitles) and a live performance “Ce n’est pas ton rêve” in french.
“In the first part of the performance I appropriate rap as a way to claim one’s self and open up to the world through a conscious gaze. Instead of imitating rap, I apply it’s rules with an inevitable distance and a necessary humor. Hence discovering an extreme corporeality of words – they have incredible shapes, speeds, they slam, they bite, they take you by the guts. Moreover, the very syntax of rap is in rebellion – the order of words, the sequencing of the subject, verb, object are often turned upside down. I take hold of these words, in repetition, in looping, until they lose their meaning and become the abstract mumble rap. Then suddenly they regain theirmeaning, but already a modified one. This semantics so specific to rap, the back and forth between the concrete and the abstract, the sensitive and the absurd, I therefor put into practice in the production of movement.
In a sense, this performance will be a sort of ritual of rebellion, built through music, dance and speech. I mention the ritual here because it is based on experiencing another sensory reality, thus sound and rhythm play a major role in ritual practices. Through the means of musical production, I bring out a sonic otherness, which is the result of my own voice and with which I can interact – « seeking to what extent a symbolic thought is capable of creating virtual worlds which are real by their effects » . This process is repeated until numerous sound existences populate the space referring to the context of a moment of civil disobedience, a moment of disorder. The choreographal research is based on studying videos of actions in demonstrations or other lmore or ess organized gatherings. By observing, detailing, analyzing and learning these actions like scores, I developed a method to clarify gestures, define spatial composition, explore tensions, articulate empowerment, play between powerlessness and taking power. While observing, how the gestures, removed from their original context of gathering, lose their prosaic side to become choreography”.
